Integrating broccoli rotation, mustard meal, and anaerobic soil disinfestation to manage verticillium wilt in strawberry

چکیده
Verticillium wilt, a disease caused by the fungus dahliae, affects vast range of crops, including strawberries. A field trial was established to evaluate effect broccoli in rotation prior strawberries, anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD), and mustard cake (MC) alone combination at suppressing V. dahliae. Broccoli, cauliflower fallow plots were year 1, followed strawberry, winter cover crop, lettuce across all over next two years. ASD + MC improved strawberry yields compared untreated control (UTC). At end harvest season, dahliae infection rates crowns lower treatments UTC. After number microsclerotia treated previously with than Broccoli residue incorporation had no limited on yields, crowns, levels harvest. All rotations showed higher total net returns despite cost treatments. The ability its persistent suppressive have important economic implications for growers.

Perspectives of Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation
Biological soil disinfestation is an environmentally friendly method to disinfest soil. From now on we refer to it as anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD). With ASD a green manure crop (40 t/ha) is homogeneously incorporated into the topsoil (0-30 cm) after which the field is lightly compacted and irrigated. Subsequently the field is mechanically covered with air tight virtually impermeable film...
متن کاملEFFICACY OF RESISTANCE SELECTION TO VERTICILLIUM WILT IN STRAWBERRY (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) TISSUE CULTURE
The soil-borne pathogenic fungus Verticillium dahliae Kleb. causes economic losses in crops in temperate regions of the world and hence is the most studied species. Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) belongs to plant species susceptible to Verticillium dahliae, although the response to infection caused by this pathogen is varied and depends on the cultivar. Due to a lack of efficient method...
متن کاملEffect of soilless growing systems on the spread of Verticillium dahliae and the severity of the Verticillium wilt in strawberry
The dispersion of soilborne plant pathogens could be greater in closed soilless growing systems than in open ones. The effect of three soilless growing systems (open, closed and closed with slow sand filtration) on the dispersion of Verticillium dahliae propagules and the severity of the disease in strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) has been analysed. V. dahliae dispersion in a closed syste...
متن کاملUnravelling the mechanism of pathogen inactivation during anaerobic soil disinfestation
Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation (ASD) for the control of multiple soilborne pathogens is a viable alternative to the application of biocides and soil steaming. ASD implies soil wetting, incorporation of fresh organic matter, and covering with airtight plastic foil for several weeks. To speed up the whole process, Thatchtec has developed a procedure based on defined agricultural products (referred...
متن کاملEvaluation of strawberry cultivars for resistance to Verticillium dahliae Kleb
Verticillium dahlia Kleb. is a soil-borne pathogen which causes worldwide economically important plant and yield losses. So far no resistance preventing the fungus from growing in the plants could be found in the genus Fragaria. But there are cultivars with different levels of tolerance. In particular after the ban on chemical control with effective soil disinfectants (methylbromid) cultivation...
